The Duffer Brothers were heavily inspired to produce the show in the setting of the ’80s as a reflection of nostalgia and conspiracy theories. They grew up along with movies such as “E.T.” and “The Goonies” with other works by Stephen King and Steven Spielberg, which they drew much of their inspiration from.

The hit Netflix series “Stranger Things” made its debut in 2016, gaining popularity throughout its seasons and its characters taking the internet by storm. ‘
Each season is filled with new characters, plot twists and getting closer to finding out more about the Hawkins’ government and The Upside Down. The show’s final season comes out in three different parts: Volume 1, which will be released on November 26 with four episodes; Volume 2 being released on Christmas with three episodes; and the finale with the last episode released on New Year’s Eve both in theaters on the big screen and on Netflix for home viewers.
During the time between seasons, many fans have developed unique conspiracies and theories that were nowhere near the plot of the show, but are just as entertaining and believable. Now that the last episodes are primed to wrap up the nostalgic series, Eastfield students share their conspiracies and theories on the finale of the series.
“I hope they pick up the subplots about the other kids with powers or they find a way that’s justified enough for the characters to deal with the apocalypse that was left behind after the portals opened all over Hawkins,” Aaron Becerra said.
“I also hope to see what the Russians do about it because they just paint it like ‘oh they got away’ and I’ve seen them say Steve could be in danger, which I wouldn’t want because we all love him. I would also like for Will to have powers or for them to somehow take advantage of the fact that they’ve been possessing him basically since the beginning of the series.”
With the previous theory taking us back to season four featuring other children with powers who were also experimented on in the Hawkins National Laboratory, other theories raised questions from past seasons of the show.
“I’d like to know Will’s role in this new season. Since season one, Will developed a connection after spending so much time on the other side and I would like to know how that will play out during this final season,” Eduardo Blanco said. “I’d also like to know how the government will get involved with the new problem, since the Upside Down and Hawkins now exist at the same time, and how they would solve it. I overall want to know more about the Russians who knew about The Upside Down, if there is a bigger enemy than Vecna and what role they will hold in this season and if the children at the daycare of the laboratory have any knowledge about this.”
Many, including Blanco, believe that “Stranger Things” continue to have theories that center around The Upside Down and main characters of the show.
“I think it would be Mike,” he said. “Since two people he cares about very much have something to do with the Upside Down, he’ll end up sacrificing himself to protect them. Another theory I have is that Will has powers that neither he nor anyone else knows about. At some critical moment, he’ll realize he has them and could be the one to end The Upside Down. Will could be Vecna’s puppet, or someone bigger, someone who controls him without anyone noticing with Max. Also coming into play since she had direct contact with Vecna, Vecna could use her as she is in a coma.”
To wrap up student theories about the Upside, government and potential deaths of characters, many have come to the conclusion that this season will be a heartbreaking finale with fan favorites getting killed and the series having both a good or bad ending, depending on the individual.
“For this upcoming season I feel like it’s going to be one of those seasons that will end in a heartbreak,” Melo Serrano said. “For my predictions, I feel like a dragon like the Thessalhydra from Dungeon and Dragons might show up because that is how the series started with the main characters playing Dungeon and Dragons in Mike’s basement. Hopefully, they might talk more about The Upside Down and the purpose of it besides that I feel that one of these main characters will be going away, either Eleven, Mike or Dustin. I feel like Dustin is such a cool character that they might have to let him go. Shows tend to let the good characters go.”
Fans around Eastfield and all around the world will be waiting to see how this story will end and are anxiously waiting to see the final scene of the series. The Duffer Brothers hit show will leave a final impression with fans for years to come.
