We set out on a mission to the State Fair of Texas fairgrounds recently to find Big Tex. Big Tex remained elusive, well hidden behind a tree in front of the entrance. Something I noticed is that the State Fair had bigger trees than last year. More avid visitors of the State Fair may not have had to wander like us, as we took an adventure around the entire fairgrounds. In the end, we did not spot him, but we still had a great time exploring. After asking an employee where Big Tex was, we went back to the entrance and there he was.

“I do not remember there being dinosaurs,” I said to Eric. On that visit, I noticed a lot of remodeling and it was my first time seeing Big Tex’s boots with a caution sign hanging from them.

For students and staff heading to the fair, definitely take advantage of Dallas College student discounts by going to SharePoint via the online tools menu on the Dallas College website. In the search bar, type in “Student Hub” and right-click on the first result. After that, go to the Student Discounts and find the listing for the State Fair of Texas. Once selected, you can then right-click on the “button below” and enter the passcode BigTexDallasCollege. After paying for the 2024 Corporate Advance Premium Admission, which is around 17 dollars plus a $1.50 fee, you are ready to go to the Fair during the 24-day run from September 27 to October 20.

Consider taking DART to the Fair but double-check if the bus is going to Buckner or North Carrollton before you hop on to avoid getting lost. Despite getting on the wrong rail line, we had fun at the Fair.
